OUR CURRICULUM

The curriculum at Sunny Side Up is Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) approved and was created with our children’s needs in mind: to mature and develop in a safe yet stimulating environment. Take a look below to learn more about what we offer at our in home daycare.

EARLY WRITING

At Sunny Side Up, we practice our writing skills by age appropriate milestones. Early in development, children's drawings serve as their writings. As children develop, children begin to write unconventional, letter-like forms which in the future form into conventional letters and small words.

MATH

Whether it be counting, shapes, colors, sorting, or another way, Sunny Side Up promotes learning math through manipulatives. Manipulatives are used to increase a child's awareness and knowledge by being able to learn hands-on.

SCIENCE

Science is a process of exploration and discovery! Children will learn to conduct simple experiments, learn about nature and the outside world, use their five senses, question their surroundings, and much more!

ART

Art is the perfect way to express oneself. At Sunny Side Up, we use many mediums such as paint, dot markers, crayons, paper, and much more to create meaningful masterpieces.

SIGN LANGUAGE

At Sunny Side Up, we believe sign language to be important-- especially for those who cannot yet communicate clearly with others. We believe everyone should have a voice, whether it be from your voice or use of sign language.

SPANISH

With Spanish being a growing language in the United States, we challenge each child to learn how to say certain words in Spanish such as greetings, numbers, and colors.

OUTDOOR PLAY

At Sunny Side Up, we aim to explore, learn, create and of course have fun outside!
